1:45 THE IMPORTANCE OF BOUNDARIES
Building boundaries takes time! Cassandra talks about the importance of setting up boundaries. It can be kind of a slow process, but it is SO worth it.
There is a fine line between being vulnerable and creating boundaries. You have to look at your relationships with people and where you want to stand with people, and then making sure your boundaries are CLEAR.
It’s important that you have communication about where you stand and your thoughts.
You either set clear boundaries or let your relationship slowly explode!!
The first step is to look at things that are recurring in your life and identify something that is making your uncomfortable. Then you just need to remember, that each relationship can be helpful and you can learn from them. No relationship needs to be a failure.
8:00 TIME TO GET UNCOMFORTABLE
Start looking at things as “net gain or net loss” If there is something to be gained, relationship to be salvaged, it’s worth it to sit down and have the uncomfortable conversation.
If certain things cross a boundary, it’s your responsibility to take the time to establish your “no-go” zone. AKA when something comes into your “box”. That’s when you decide that something is so toxic that there is no solution so you remove yourself from a situation.
13:30 YOUR BOX
Some people are really good at making you feel bad about your boundaries. Clients can sometimes make you feel bad about your boundaries and make it look like bad customer service.
Once you set those boundaries, your relationships are able to thrive more. You’re able to be more open about your feelings, and find a common ground with those around you, and everyone can be a little more relaxed.
Also, it’s important to remember your DELIVERY. You teach people how to treat you.
By nature, hairstylists are taught to work 12 hour days, not take a lunch, and work SO hard, but now, we’re working on setting boundaries, and creating a healthier workflow.
Set up things for your clients and have nice conversations that help set boundaries, but don’t come off as attacking.
